I’ve just posted a review for HAM1’s second album, The Captain’s Table, which is available now from Orange Twin Records. You can read the review here.

There will be a free Great Lakes show this Monday, October 22, at 8pm at Zebulon in Manhattan.  The band will be opening for Talibam!, who will be taking the stage at 9.

Speaking of videos nominally connected to Elephant 6, take a gander at this 1998 video for Belle & Sebastian’s “Dirty Dream Number Two,” directed by Lance Bangs. Bangs was shooting lots of Neutral Milk Hotel and other E6-related footage around this time, and some familiar faces manage to appear in this video.

Belle & Sebastian – Dirty Dream Number Two

A couple months ago we posted a video, “Aurora Borealis,” from Nesey Gallons, a songwriter who’s a close friend of Julian Koster’s, and who shot his video on the island where Julian lives.  For the curious, here’s his second video which I didn’t post then; “There Won’t Be Any Crows” was clearly shot simultaneously, featuring similar imagery.

And here’s the “Aurora Borealis” video, in case you missed it.  See if you can spot Julian.

Hopefully these songs will be seeing an official release soon.  I await news–Mr. Gallons, if you’re out there, write me!

By the way, keep a close eye on the of Montreal blog I posted about earlier.  I’m doing double-duties posting over there as well as over here (I’m their site administrator, and also designed the blog’s logo), so expect some more up-to-date of Montreal news on that site that I might neglect to come and post over here.

The October 14 Elephant 6 Show podcast has now been added to our archives. This show features apple pie.

Polyvinyl Records is now selling the of Montreal tour 7″, Gender Mutiny Tour, through their website for $5.  It includes two tracks, a Royal Trux cover, “Back to School,” and a new song, “Subtext Read, Nothing New.”  You can grab it here.  Thanks to Harnk for the heads-up.

amrevsetresized.jpgIn my PopFest coverage I mentioned that Bill Doss was not given a chance to learn any of the songs when he was asked to play bass with Robert Schneider’s band, Thee American Revolution.  In fact, Robert insisted this be the case, to fulfill the band’s sloppy hard-rock ethic.  Well, here’s your proof: Bill’s setlist from the show.  Thanks to bandmember Craig Morris for the scan (and it only took me two months to post it!).
