A few months ago I mentioned a notice which had appeared on the Minders‘ MySpace page which strongly implied that the band was no more.  I lamented the Minders‘ passing, as did a number of others.  Now comes this post from Robert Schneider on the Minders forum, which, while not coming from Martyn Leaper himself, is pretty convincing evidence that in fact the band is not dead at all.  In Robert’s words:

hi guys– i spoke to martyn recently, and he said it is absolutely NOT the case, that the minders have broken up– but he confirmed that rebecca did leave the band, events surrounding which were responsible for the post quoted above, saying they broke up (martyn did not approve that post, however).

martyn (who started the minders with me, as a recording project for the two of us for the first Minders single on Elephant 6 Records, but quickly fleshed it out into a live band with rebecca cole, jeff almond, and mark wilhite, by the time their second single came out) said he still plans on recording and performing songs under the name The Minders.

also, he is playing with a new band– however i will leave it up to martyn to confirm or deny the above speculations about matt (who also rocks).

hope this is useful information,

robert schneider

In a word: yay.

ifd.jpgIdeal Free Distribution had been compiling the songs for their first, self-titled record for many years before it saw release (and critical acclaim) through Happy Happy Birthday to Me.  So it should be no surprise that it hasn’t taken the Kentucky popsters very long to complete their sophomore album.  While it doesn’t have a release date yet, you can hear three of the new tracks streaming at the band’s MySpace page: “William Buss,” “Stars,” and “Trip Inside.”  All are fantastic.

The third album from The Visitations, The Conundrum Tree, will be released by Orange Twin Records this August. It’s actually been available for streaming on the band’s MySpace page for a while, but an official release is welcome news; I think it’s the best work from them yet. (And I say “them” because I’m trying to avoid spelling Davey’s last name.) Below is a track listing, as well as the new Dickie Cox-directed video for the album, “Drugged Out Angel,” which lives up to its name…

Episode 3

Episode 4

I had never seen this before. It’s a fan-made video of The Music Tapes covering “All Tomorrow’s Parties,” shot on 16mm. It definitely deserves to have been on this blog somewhere, don’t you think? (Incidentally, the song appears on the out-of-print Japan-only compilation, Rabid Chords 002: VU Tribute, which also featured of Montreal, The Ladybug Transistor, and The Olivia Tremor Control.)
