Casper & the Cookies are playing Athfest tonight at the Flicker Theatre (they’re scheduled for about 1am), and of course they’re also lined up for Popfest, though you’ll be hearing a lot more from them soon–a new album’s in the pipeline. In the meantime, here’s Part 2 of their Japan tour video.

You may be enjoying Athfest this weekend, but the Athens Popfest is right around the corner. This year’s festival’s closing night even features a bevy of Elephant 6 artists in a row, including, of course, the long-awaited return of The Music Tapes.

Folklore has been known to cover the Kinks when they perform live, and when I asked Jimmy Hughes about it a few months back he said he’d been itching to do a full Village Green Preservation Society cover show.  (If you don’t own The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society, you probably shouldn’t be reading this website.)  Well, that’s going to happen this Friday night at the Georgia Theatre in Athens as part of Athfest; the same evening will see performances from Elf Power, Venice is Sinking, Contraband, and Velveteen Pink.  And apparently Laura Carter will be joining Folklore for the Kinks set (or so says the poster)!

Hybrid Magazine has posted an interview with Folklore’s Jimmy Hughes–a really good profile of Jimmy and the band, with much ink on the topic of their first two albums.  You can read it here.
