I haven’t posted about of Montreal in a while, but the indie-glam royalty collaborated with Janelle Monáe on the track “Make the Bus” from the upcoming album The ArchAndroid (due out March 18th). You can stream the track at Some Kind of Awesome. You will notice the Kevin Barnes touches, in the style of Skeletal Lamping, just about immediately.  If you’re anxious for a freak fix between oM albums, this does the trick.

On the subject, Lexington, KY-based You Ain’t No Picasso has a contest going where the winner gets a $50 shopping spree at Lexington’s CD Central with of Montreal’s B.P. Helium when the band visits the city on May 27th.  Details for entry (which are rather unique) can be found at YANP.  Get your entry in before May 24th for a chance to win.

One of the most anticipated live events of the year happened last night at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC, as Jeff Mangum returned to the stage after a long hiatus (excepting his performance of “Engine” during the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour of 2008, and occasional cameos during sets by Elf Power, The Olivia Tremor Control, and The Instruments).  He performed:

“Oh Comely”
“A Baby for Pree”/”Where You’ll Find Me Now”
“Two Headed Boy Pt. 2″
“In the Aeroplane Over the Sea”
“Engine” (encore)

A very good live review can be found at Radio Exile.

UPDATE: Another review is at One Thirty BPM.

UPDATE: And another exceptionally-written review, from Simon at Entertainment Weekly’s music blog.

Here are some cell phone videos posted to YouTube…I’d expect we’ll see more videos and reviews popping up throughout the day.

And NPR’s All Songs Considered calls The Apples in Stereo’s Travellers in Space and Time their “best album yet.”

Robert Schneider discusses what his concept of “science fiction” would be for the latest album by The Apples in Stereo, Travellers in Space and Time, at the Onion AV Club:

5 bands (and one Russian composer) that turned the Apples in Stereo into sci-fi buffs

The band hits Milwaukee’s Turner Hall Ballroom tomorrow night…
